Frequently Asked Questions
What services does open minds offer?
We provide psychiatric medication management for children, teens, and adults. Our approach is holistic and collaborative — integrating all aspects of health to support long-term stability and wellness.
What ages do you treat?
We treat clients 6 years and older.
Do you offer in person and telehealth appointments?
Yes, we offer in both person appointments at our brick and mortar location at 204 Bluebird Drive Goodlettsville, TN 37072 and telehealth appointments via our secure telehealth platform at openminds.doxy.me for convenience and accessibility.
Do I need a referral to schedule an appointment?
Most insurances do not require a referral, but Tricare patients will need both a referral and prior authorization from their primary care provider.
Will I be prescribed medication at my first appointment?
Medication decisions are individualized. Your provider will complete a full evaluation before prescribing and discuss all options with you. If medication is part of your treatment plan, a prescription will be sent to the pharmacy of your choice the same day as your appointment.
What if I have questions about my medication between visits?
Send us a secure message through our spruce patient portal at https://spruce.care/openmindsmentalhealth or call the office at 615-212-8887. Your provider or the provider on call will respond within 24 business hours.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
We require at least 24 business hours notice for cancellation or reschedule in order to avoid paying a fee. This helps us keep openings available for others needing care.
Will I see a doctor or a nurse practitioner?
Our providers are board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP-BC). Psychiatric Nurse practitioners hold graduate degrees and have specialized training in diagnosing and treating mental health conditions. We are licensed to evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe medications for psychiatric disorders.
In the state of Tennessee, nurse practitioners work under a collaborative supervision agreement with a supervising psychiatrist, who provides oversight and consultation as needed. This team-based model allows us to offer safe, evidence-based, and accessible care while maintaining a high standard of clinical practice.
